Elementary School Counseling Program:

Why Elementary School Counselors?

“Today’s young people are living in an exciting time, with an increasingly diverse society, new technologies and expanding opportunities. To help ensure that they are prepared to become the next generation of parents, workers, leaders and citizens, every student needs support, guidance and opportunities during childhood, a time of rapid growth and change. Children face unique and diverse challenges, both personally and developmentally, that have an impact on academic achievement."
– “Toward a Blueprint for Youth: Making Positive Youth Development a National Priority,” U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Comprehensive

As licensed School Counselors, we advocate for student’s academic, career, and social-emotional success through a developmental,  comprehensive, and culturally-relevant school counseling program.

Research-based

Not only do we provide engaging and fun lessons, we also make sure that all lessons are up-to-date with current research and evidence-based best practices.  We use scripted curriculum, as well as innovative lessons to provide meaningful and relevant instruction.

Collaborative

We believe that schools partnering with families is the best way to support children. We enjoy working with parents, teachers, administrators, and agencies to provide what children need to find success in all areas of their lives.

Proactive

Our goal is to be proactive in addressing behavioral and emotional needs. Through our counseling programs, students learn developmentally appropriate competencies, such as bullying prevention and self-esteem building.

Multi-Tiered

Based upon the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) recommendations:

  • Tier 1: Classroom and Large Group Counseling

  • Tier 2: Small Group Counseling based on need

  • Tier 3: Individual Counseling and Response Services

Responsive

As Elementary School Counselors, we provide responsive services to students and families in crisis.  We offer support through partnerships within our district and agencies in the community.  Our efforts are supported by the district's Mental Health and Safety & Security committees.
